study questions:

John 21:1-14
1.Warm-up: Many of our best times with friends and family happen around meals. Why do you think this is? What is a time with friends or family around a meal that was or has been special for you?
2.Read verses 1-2. How would you describe the setting of this account of Jesus? Who was there? Where are they? Why are they there? (see also Matthew 28:17) When did this account happen in the life of Jesus?
3.Read verses 3-6. What were the disciples doing when they encountered Jesus? What advice did Jesus give the disciples, and how did it turn out? What does this encounter with Jesus teach us about what happens when we obey Jesus? On a scale of 1-10 (10 is good), how would you rate your obedience to God? How do you need to grow in obedience?
4.Read verses 7-12. Who recognized Jesus first? How did the other disciples react? What was Jesus doing on the shore, and what did Jesus ask the disciples to do? How do you think you would have reacted to Jesus if you were one of the disciples? How do you respond to the presence of God in your life now? Are you excited, bored, or someplace in the middle? Does this attitude need to change? Why or why not?
5.Read verses 13-14. What did the disciples end up doing with Jesus? How are you doing in spending quality time with Jesus? Do you really believe God wants to spend time with you? Why or why not? Is there anything you could do to improve your time with God?
6.So what? What is one thing you are taking away from this study that encourages or helps you to go deeper in your relationship with God?
